Traditional Chinese Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture and how does it work? Acupuncture is a natural therapeutic method. It has been used to prevent and treat diseases for more than 3000 years in China. In recent years much modem experimental research on the mechanisms of acupuncture treatment has been carried out. Research has shown that acupuncture can improve blood circulation through strengthening the contractility of myocardium, regulating the supply and demand of myocardial oxygen and hemodynamics. Acupuncture can regulate body metabolism. According to the theories of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture improves the flow of Qi (Energy) and Xue (Blood) through distinct meridians that cover the body. Acupuncture allows Qi and Xue to flow to areas that are deficient and away from area where there is excess. In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. Those actions of acupuncture are the basis of preventing and treating diseases. Acupuncture treatment possesses the benefits of effectiveness and safety. It does not produce any side effect or allergic reaction. Acupuncture has become very popular and increasingly important component of world medicine. Acupressure Acupressure is one of the ancient and unique therapeutic methods of traditional Chinese medicine. It is based upon the traditional theories of Qi, blood, visceral organs, meridians and collaterals, and is characterized by applying special manipulation on certain meridians, acupoints, muscles and skin areas using different parts of the palms and fingers and with varied degrees of force. It includes pushing and stroking the meridians, digital and palmar pressing on the acupoints, kneading and grasping the muscles, and rubbing the skin, by which the flow of Qi and blood in the body will be improved. Stress and pain are relieved naturally. Acupressure unblocks energy and allows the body to heal itself. Chinese Herbs Chinese herbs have four energies and five tastes. The four energies indicate the properties of cold, hot, warm and cool. These terms describe the therapeutically significant, energetic characteristics of herbs and their actions. The five tastes are sour, bitter, sweet, pungent-spicy and salty. A particular property can induce certain therapeutic effect. Different combinations of herbs can cause variations in therapeutic effect. Chinese herbs have existed for thousands of years and have effectively treated many common diseases and conditions.
