Over the decades, The Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School has become highly regarded among music schools in the New York area Today, we continue our commitment to maintaining excellence and to meeting the needs of students who are visually impaired. We are dedicated also to reaching out to music education programs in New York and to sharing our resources. A member of both the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and the New York City Coalition of Community Schools of the Arts, the Music School offers individual and group instruction in voice and a range of instruments, music theory, assistive music technology, and composition. Whatever your interest, you'll find a course that's right for you. Music Education: Enhancing Your Lifestyle We believe that instruction in the arts plays a key role in vision rehabilitation and emphasizes the value of group experiences in the educational process -- at whatever age. For young people experiencing vision loss, developing musical talents can have a positive impact on all aspects of life, both personal and academic. For adult students, acquiring or retaining musical skills is important to maintaining quality of life and underscores the value of lifelong learning. Reaping the Benefits of the Most Advanced Technology for You Our Music Technology Center offers ground-breaking instructional and transcribing technologies, including a piano lab, and provides unprecedented creative freedom.
The Lighthouse also plays a leadership role in designing and testing new technologies, in order to maximize your learning opportunities. No other community or university music program in the region offers this computer capacity. In addition, our school maintains a unique, accessible collection of musical scores in braille, large-print and audio formats -- an invaluable resource for students and faculty alike, as well as for other educational institutions nationwide. It is the second largest collection in the U.S. behind that of The Library of Congress.
