Our approach is to synthesize from interaction and analysis. Our clients are valued collaborators in shaping project programs and determining design direction. The firm is sensitive to the nuances of place and precedent. A substantial portion of our work consists of projects in campus and urban centers as well as additions to historic buildings.
The 65-person firm has an international reputation for architectural excellence, confirmed by 100 design awards, continuing recognition in the professional and general press, and inclusion in exhibitions and histories of contemporary architecture.

In 1982 Gwathmey Siegel & Associates became the youngest firm to receive the American Institute of Architects' highest honor—the Firm Award—for "approaching every project with a fresh eye, a meticulous attention to detail, a keen appreciation for environmental and economic concerns...and a strong belief in collaborative effort."
The firm is well known for its holistic approach, that integrates interior design details and site related improvements as integral parts of the architectural solution.
Charles Gwathmey and Robert Siegel are involved with the conceptual design direction and actively participate in the development process of each project, which is managed on a daily basis by the Associate Architects.
The ten Associates are senior architects who have been with the firm from 10 to 25 years. They supervise the teams established for each project, are responsible for the selection and coordination of engineering and specialized consultants, and act as the liaison between the firm and its clients.
Teams are assembled from a technical staff of sixty five architects and draftspeople. The team's nucleus—the project architect and key staff—remain on the project team from its beginning through the design development and construction phases.
