Pleasantville Learning Center
Our mission as a learning center is a commitment to helping your child become a successful learner. We believe in all children and their ability to achieve their highest potential. We see every child as a distinct individual, with specific needs which must be addressed if learning is to occur. Our goal is to create a learning environment that is safe, caring, enriched, and fun. Our professional staff is committed to these beliefs. The goal of our center is to promote exploration and the fun of learning. It is a risk free environment where professional tutors encourage your child to be an active learner through the use of meaningful and relevant content. There is no judgment made about performance and children are encouraged to do their best without the worry of criticism or competition from others. Dr. JoAnne Dornfeld-Januzzi is the Director of the Pleasantville Learning Center, and a current middle school principal. Dr. Dornfeld-Januzzi has worked in the field of education for over 25 years. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees at Hofstra University in Psychology, Elementary Education, and Special Education, respectively. She obtained her Professional Diploma in Educational Administration and Supervision, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Fordham University. She began her career as a special education teacher in the Bellmore-Merrick Central School District. She served as an Assistant Principal at Westlake Middle School in Thornwood, and the principal of Tuckahoe High School, in Eastchester. Our student teacher ratio for group tutoring is between 1:2 and 1:5, which allows for individual attention combined with peer group reference. Our individual 1:1 tutoring enables our teachers to provide full attention to your child and to focus on their specific needs. The focus of our services will be on adjusting our teaching style to your child's needs whether your child needs help preparing for a test, help "catching up" in a particular subject area, or an opportunity for enrichment not available in the standard curriculum.
