Albany Public Library
Vision Albany Public Library... * is a dynamic information organization that improves the quality of life in the community. * Connects our diverse community with essential information through a dedicated, skilled and friendly staff. * Collaborates with other organizations to promote the cultural, educational and economic well being of the community. * Provides a safe, inviting atmosphere that encourages the use of its facilities by everyone. * Incorporates the latest information technologies in the provision of library services. * Obtains the strong financial foundation necessary to sustain its service commitments and initiate new services. The Albany Public Library's primary responsibility for reference and bibliographic services is to the residents of Albany, NY. The Library, with its present staff, facilities, and funding, is unable to provide all the reference and bibliographic services requested by patrons from other states and countries. We wish to assist you with your information needs, but we must request that you obtain information from your local libraries and resources when appropriate. Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is provided by all branches of Albany Public Library for materials that member libraries of the Upper Hudson Library System do not own. Any customer in good standing (fines below $2.00 and no restrictive use notes) may use this service. Customers may only have 5 ILL items checked out at any time, but the ILL Librarian reserves the right to manage customer requests in light of workflow constraints. We propose such services as: • Ask a librarian • Interlibrary Loan • Bookmobile • Book Cellar • Readers Services • Albany History and Genealogy • Computer Use • Computer Classes • Job Information Center Albany Public Library also maintains meeting room space for use by non-profit community groups, associations, and agencies when such space is not being used for library sponsored programming. The library endorses the principles adopted by the American Library Association in the Library Bill of Rights regarding meeting room use which state, “Libraries which maintain meeting rooms, exhibit space, or other facilities open to the public should make them available on equal terms to all persons, regardless of their beliefs or affiliations.” Authorization to use meeting rooms does not constitute an endorsement by the library of a group or organization’s positions or beliefs.
